Abies fraserii - Fraser Fir is a fast growing, large evergreen with dark green needles that have a silver grey underside.

Originally from the USA, this species is most frequently planted in the UK for Christmas tree crops as it has a dense, busy habit when young. Fraser Fir has a narrower and more compact shape than Nordmann Fir so is often suited to smaller rooms in houses if it is grown to then be supplied as a cut Christmas tree.

We grow several other species of cell grown conifers which are all suited for Christmas tree production.

WHAT TYPE OF TREE SHELTER DO I NEED?

If protection is required for Fraser fir you may wish to consider Tubex Treeguard which is an open mesh guard. This product provides an open, airy environment which is preferred by coniferous species.

If you are growing Fraser Fir for Christmas tree production then fencing the area from vermin may be the best way of protecting the trees.

Find out more about the benefits of tree shelters and information on sizing on our Tree Shelter Guide page.

WEED CONTROL AND MULCHING

Don't forget that good weed control around newly planted trees and shrubs is vital to reduce moisture stress and competition. This will improve plant survival and enhance growth.

You may prefer to use our range of mulch mats and pegs, including our 100% biodegradable BioJute Mulch Mat, in order to avoid having to spray herbicide.

Give your plants the best start possible by using our professional Controlled Release Fertiliser granules when planting.
